A Beautiful Air Quality Controlled Space for Community Music Making:

Historic small venue for acoustic or soft electronic music. Seating 40, the beautiful wood paneled 'Opera' room (~800 square feet) has high ceilings, decorative mirrors and sconce lighting. It faces an elevated music room (~300 sq ft) with hand painted murals that serves as a stage. An excellent venue to host your music recital, intimate concert, workshop, rehearsals, etc.

Air Safety Specifications:

The 'Opera' room is equipped with 3 air filters: Corsi-Rosenthal box (MERV-13), Medify MA-50 (True HEPA filters, CADR: 598=1,320 sq ft in 30 minutes), IKEA Starkvind air purifying table (EPA 12 filter, CADR: 55 - 270 m3/h). The music room/stage is equipped with 2 air filters: Medify MA-25 (True HEPA filters, 825 sq ft in 1 hour), IKEA Starkvind air purifier (EPA 12, CADR: 55-270 m3/h).

Private and small group lessons are held in the front parlor (~300 sq feet). The vestibule (~200 sq feet) and adjoining parlor are equipped with an Aranet4 CO2 sensor and a Canaree |1 air quality sensor. In the warm seasons, these rooms are cross ventilated with 3 window fans, one ceiling fan and two small table fans, aiming for a CO2 level of below 700ppm. Air filters are also continuously running on low during classes and lessons.

The vestibule is equipped with a Honeywell InSight HEPA air purifier (for 100 sq ft). The archway between the vestibule and the parlor is equipped with a Honeywell Allergen Plus air filter (HEPA, AHAM Verified to filter and recirculate air the recommended 4.8 times an hour or every 12.5 minutes in rooms up to 500 sq ft., or once an hour for rooms up to 2400 sq ft.) The parlor is equipped with an IKEA Starkvind air purifying table (EPA 12 filter, CADR: 55 - 270 m3/h). During cold seasons when cross ventilation is impossible a Beacon far UVC 222 nm light (EPA, ASHRAE, FCC & UL Component Certified) may also be used.

Music Lessons and Workshops:

Private music lessons aim to teach all fundamental skills including rhythm, melody, harmony and expression, with a strong emphasis on both ear training and music literacy. The ultimate goal is to develop independence and self-sufficiency in students.

Ayame Vest is the primary teacher (piano, violin, mandolin, handbells, voice, music theory, history, acoustics, musicianship, Asian instruments such as shamisen, koto, erhu, dizi etc.) She is immunocompromised, wears an N95 mask and prefers students do the same unless they have sensory issues or are otherwise incapable.

Nick Vest is the secondary teacher (guitar, harp guitar, banjo, throat singing (AKA overtone/harmonic singing), didgeridoo, Ancient and African lyre, etc.) He masks in order to protect his wife's health. All winds and vocal lessons will take place only during warm seasons for the time being.

Anyone actively ill (coughing, sneezing, sniffling, sore throat, feverish) should not enter or stay in the space, but should reschedule, stay in the car waiting for the student, etc. Masking is not strictly required, only advised. All students should wash or sanitize their hands before playing instruments.

The Center hosts guest lecturers and workshops, such as the monthly Creative Music Jam with Leanne Darling of Music for People, and Ancient Music workshops in Greco-Roman lyre and Aulos with Barnaby Brown, etc.

Finally, we host events, such as interdisciplinary art performances, and we do also hold more informal music sessions (donation only) such as Meditative Chant, a breathwork holistic chant-based modality (Saturdays at 12 Noon) and the upcoming Chinese Music Club, a casual chamber ensemble in the style of teahouse music known as Jiangnan Sizhu. Various instruments are available to try: erhu, yueqin, sanxian, etc. Everyone is welcome!
